'SUMMER' WINS TOP PRIZE IN ROME
The Works International is proud to announce that SUMMER, directed by Kenny Glenaan, has won a top accolade at the 2008 Rome Film Festival. The film was awarded the Alicenella città [‘Alice in the City’] Over 12 Prize for Best Film. The €25,000 prize is voted for by the youth jury (ages 13–17 years).
The film will be released in the UK by Vertigo Films on the 5th December 2008. SUMMER is in the running for three Scottish BAFTAs (Best Film/ Best Direction/ Best Performance – Robert Carlyle) and also won the Best Actor Prize for Robert Carlyle at this year’s Edinburgh Film Festival.
SUMMER stars Robert Carlyle (Stone of Destiny, Trainspotting, Carla’s Song, The Full Monty) as Shaun, Steve Evets (Looking for Eric) as Daz, and Rachael Blake (Lantana, Derailed) as Katy.
A strong supporting cast includes Kate Dickie (Red Road), Michael Socha, George Costigan, Julia Ford, Clare Kerrigan and Deborah Findlay.
Director Kenny Glenaan’s feature length TV drama Gas Attack won the Best New British Feature award at the Edinburgh Film Festival and his follow up, Yasmin, won prizes at both the Locarno and Dinard Film Festivals. Summer is produced by Camilla Bray for Sixteen Films.
Shaun has had twelve years to reflect on an intense summer of love, sex and loyalty, but his best friend Daz’s imminent death forces him on a journey to confront his past. A witty, poignant story about loyalty, friendship and love.
SUMMER is a Sixteen Films co-production with Mediopolis Köln and Cinema Two is presented by the UK Film Council (New Cinema Fund), EM Media (through the European Regional Development Fund), Matador Pictures, Regent Capital, Filmstiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Scottish Screen, Glasgow Film Office, BBC Films and Hewland International.
